Many people suffer anxiety after losing their security blankets. These could be their homes, relationships, career, etc. Anxiety has become prevalent but dealing with it has remained difficult.
Will listening to sad music depress me even more?
A group of researchers from Europe and Australia have found that listening to sad music can help make people feel less sad (or at least feel a comforting kind of sadness). Furthermore, people with more positive responses to sad music tended to be more empathetic and open to new experiences in general. Thus, it could be more helpful than damaging.
Listening to others talk about their own loneliness, sadness, or mental health struggles through podcasts or songs helps listeners feel less isolated. However, this doesn't work for everybody. There is a possibility for listeners to still steep into darker material and ultimately cause distress. Self control is, indeed, necessary.
